Welcome to Linuxpedia XWITS – An Experimental Community Help Desk With Semantic Capabilities

Warning: This application is in a prototyping phase for now. It is under heavy development within the NEPOMUK project. The first release is expected by the end of 2008.

This area consists of an experimental version of a help desk system building on the technologies designed within the NEPOMUK European Research project aiming at A Social Semantic Desktop. Beside traditional help desk system features, the one being developed here will feature the following functionalities:

  • Semantic capabilities: you will be able to add metadata to the question and answers, for running advanced search queries against the contents,
  • Easy conversion of technical discussions into reusable knowledge through an in depth integration with an advanced knowledge base,
  • Social capabilities: the help desk will let you give ratings to questions, answers and participants, letting you establish a social trust network and take advantage of algorithms developed by the NEPOMUK partners for taking advantage of social search mechanism,
  • Memorizing assistants: the help desk will let you draw links easily between on-line resources and desktop resources you may find relevant in the context of a given problem, such as ebooks you may have locally, emails or bookmarks that you have on your desktop on on external Web applications,
  • A tight desktop integration through Nepomuk-KDE, Nepomuk-Eclipse and Nepomuk-Mozilla libraries.
We're permanently looking for your feedback. If you are game for taking part in an evaluation of the system, don't hesitate to contact us.

The system is developed jointly by Mandriva, XWiki and the NEPOMUK partners. It will be made available under an open-source license.
